Obama Cookies

These are the cookies I made for the inauguration party my younger brother's girlfriend is throwing. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out, although I ran out of red and blue icing. I should have made 2 batches.

The sugar cookie recipe is the one I always use, and I've finally posted it in the recipe archive. I also posted the recipe I use for royal icing, which is from the cooking textbook I had to buy my first year of college (before I changed my major... twice).

I got about 50 cookies out of a single recipe. I also rolled them pretty thinly. To decorate these, I did all of the white portions first. Then I filled in all the red stripes, and finally, the blue portion. I recommend doubling the icing recipe. There will be extra icing, but it's easier to work with the decorating bag if you have a good amount to hold on to. I used a #2 round decorating tip and a 14" decorating bag.
