Sugar Cookie Cutouts
Sugar Cookies

From the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook

2/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour

In a large mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar, baking powder, and salt. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla until combined. Beat in flour.

Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill about 30 minutes until easy to handle.

Preheat oven to 375°F.

On a lightly floured surface, roll half the dough at a time until 1/8 inch thick. Cut out dough with cookie cutters and place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet (I always put a layer of parchment on my cookie sheets).

Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.

Decorate as desired.
